Levelling a floor

Creating a level floor is an important part of getting a home refurb job finished. If you are laying laminate flooring then you need to start with a flat base. Flat really means flat, and dips and bumps of just a few milimetres can really cause problems later on.

The good news is that self levelling compound is an easy DIY product that gives you perfectly flat floors. Seriously, it is so easy to use you will be surprised at how professional the finished surface looks.

Simply pour mixed compound onto a bumpy concrete floor and smooth with a large trowel or a plasterer’s float. Just spread it about as best you can and watch it slowly level out. Splash or ideally spray with a bit of water to ensure a glass like surface.

The compound dries in a matter of hours leaving you a flat surface upon which to lay a new laminate floor.
